TITLE & SHIFT: Banquet Captain – Full time. To assist, supervise and train banquet department staff with the coordination and service delivery of food and beverage experiences to our guests. Each week, schedules are arranged based on various customer events. However, some quiet weeks may have zero payroll hours if there are low guest events booked for that week. This team generally works during every Husker Game.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
· Supervise and train staff in the set up and break down of assigned banquet rooms according to Banquet Event Order (BEO) and manager's instructions.
· Supervise and train staff in the service of food and beverages according to Marcus Hotels and Resorts and Marriott standards.
· Participate in set up of banquet rooms and service of food & beverage to guests.
· Communicate frequently with supervisors and managers.
· Assist in counseling of associates to include verbal communications, preparation of written documentation for management administration with associate(s) along with assistance of performance appraisal preparation.
· Follow all Marcus Hotels and Resorts policies and procedures, Marriott Standards, and Information Protection procedures.
· Administer discipline as needed at a supervisory level and ensure disciplinary procedures are followed. Communicate frequently with guest contacts in order to ensure that their needs are being met.
· Supervise and train staff in maintaining cleanliness of banquet rooms, public areas, and storage areas.
· Responsible for maintaining condition and cleanliness of work area.
· Supervise and train staff in maintaining inventory of necessary supplies.
· Attend all scheduled mandatory Banquet Department meetings, trainings and hotel meetings. Perform all other related duties and special projects as requested and/or assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
1. High
school diploma or equivalent required. Advanced degree in hospitality related
field preferred.
2. Prior
Banquet server/bartender or set-up experience required, prior hospitality
supervisory experience preferred.
3. Ability to obtain and maintain an
active Lancaster County Food Handler and Responsible Beverage Service Training
Certification as well as any additional training / certification requirements
per Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Marriott and Lancaster County.
4. Must
be dependable and reliable with the ability to work a varied schedule to
include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, game days and the ability to work
under pressure.
5. Ability
to quickly and effectively deal with guest requests in a friendly and positive
manner. This involves listening to the nature of concern, demonstrating empathy
with the customer and providing positive and proactive solutions.
6. Must
have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service levels for a
high volume restaurant.
7. Must
be able to lift, push, pull and/or carry 50 lbs., carry multiple drinks at
once, sufficient manual dexterity in hands in order to use a knife to make
garnishes, pick up glassware and bottles, use a corkscrew, scoop ice, mix
drinks, and reach overhead to retrieve stock. Ability
to stand and move throughout continuously to perform essential job functions.
Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.
8. Excellent
interpersonal, listening and communication skills to include the ability to
read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
9. Ability
to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer
system when applicable, strong proficiency in Excel required, prior Marriott
system experience preferred. Must be detail-orientated, able to multi-task,
produce high quality and accurate work as well as show professionalism in all
facets of the workplace.
10.Must
be able to represent the company in a professional, well-groomed and courteous
manner at all times.
